It is with great sadness that the WCO has cancelled its Term 1 concert. This was a unanimous decision made at the 17 March rehearsal by the assembled players, conductor Rachel Hyde and soloist Helene Pohl, after considering a range of issues raised by those present. Despite our sadness at having to make this decision, the orchestra had a most enjoyable evening in which we recorded a full performance of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, played with total concentration and Helene in wonderful form (and in a stunning evening dress to reflect the significance of the occasion). We ended the evening with a run through of movements II and IV of Shostakovich 5. We plan to programme this concert in 2021, all things being well.
